The Town Council is responsible for the stewardship of public funds and achieving value for money in using those funds. It is also required to be transparent in conducting its affairs and this section seeks to ensure this by providing a range of documents which cover all the Town Council’s financial arrangements.
These range from the Medium Term Financial Plan which contains the Town Council’s financial strategy, through the Budget and Precept approved for the year and on to the records of payments made each month.
We have independent internal and external audits undertaken of our accounting procedures, internal control and governance arrangements each year. These reports are available for public inspection and provide assurance that Stowmarket Town Council has strong and effective governance arrangements in place. Local people (local government electors for Stowmarket) have the right to inspect the Council’s accounts once they have been produced each year. If you are interested in any aspect of the Town Council’s financial affairs please contact the Town Clerk, David Blackburn on davidb@stowmarket.org, we would be pleased to help you with your enquiry.
