Stowmarket Town Council is pleased to announce that Councillor Darren Dordoy has been elected Town Mayor of Stowmarket, following the Annual Town Meeting held on Wednesday 6th May.

During his 12-month term, Councillor Dordoy will support and raise funds for two local charities: Redwoods Lunch Club and Jam Community Pot.

Redwoods Lunch Club provides a welcoming space for older residents to socialise over a freshly prepared lunch every Monday from 11am to 1pm. The group offers attendees not only a nutritious meal, but also the opportunity to connect with others in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Jam Community Pot supports elderly, isolated and vulnerable people across the area, offering regular opportunities to come together through Monday Community Brews and the annual Christmas Day lunch.

Commenting on his appointment, Councillor Dordoy said:

“I am truly honoured to have been elected Town Mayor by my fellow councillors. This is an exciting time for Stowmarket, and I look forward to embracing the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead. I am committed to building on the excellent work of Councillor David Child and all those who have previously held this role.”

Outgoing Town Mayor, Councillor David Child, reflected positively on his year in office:

“I am proud that during my term we were able to raise £3220.00 for my chosen charity, Stowmarket Youth Theatre. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who contributed, particularly our Leadership Support Officer, Sarah Ellice, and all those who supported me throughout the year. It has been a genuine privilege to serve as Town Mayor of Stowmarket.”

At the same meeting, Councillor Alan Edwards was elected Deputy Town Mayor.
