Hello one and all,
It seems that summer has officially arrived although it does seem as if we’ve had several summers in a row due to the temperatures we are having to endure. I hope that you’re all coping in the school holidays and enjoy your family time together.
I was extremely excited to be invited to St Edmundsbury Cathedral for the civic ceremony of the Chair of West Suffolk Council, Councillor Peter Armitage. It was lovely to meet so many other dignitaries from around the county. The surroundings as you can imagine, were magnificent and the service was very poignant. I especially enjoyed taking part in the oath to serve our communities.
It was nice to be invited to officially open the new play area at the food Museum. As many of you will know this is where I work, so I personally know the amount of hard work that had gone into making sure that it was ready for opening. Due to the extreme weather, it had been an arduous task to keep the newly laid turf and plants sufficiently watered. Thankfully it was able to be opened to the members and visitors. It is an amazing mixture of slides, climbing, and swings. I must admit it was great fun testing out the new zip wire.
Everybody is aware of how quickly the year is progressing when the carnival week is upon us.
Louise and I were thrilled to be part of the carnival procession; it was great to have seen so many people lining the route of the procession. As always, many people kindly donated into the buckets along the parade. Both of us were overwhelmed by the amount of people who waved back to us and who made the day with their enthusiasm and smiles.
A big thank you to all the organisations who took part in the procession and to those who had stalls on the recreation ground. I know a lot of preparation goes into the floats and the ideas, and it is appreciated. Once again, the town has been lucky enough to maintain this tradition thanks to the dedication and hard work of the carnival committee and all the sponsors and those who have taken part.
We also visited the Redwood Lunch club at Red Gables, one of the organisations that are part of my charities this year.
It is a vital hub that provides not only a hot meal and dessert for local residents, it is an opportunity to socialise and they have guest speakers, raffle and bingo. The speaker on this occasion explained everyday sayings and phrases. Louise and I enjoyed our Mediterranean chicken and lemon cheesecake, the food and company were perfect. I cannot thank all the volunteers that make this happen enough. We look forward to our next visit.
