Successive governments have promoted greater devolution and more local decision-making and accountability. They have also promised the public more contact with those who provide services and support to them. However, the experiences of the general public can be very different with call centres and online reporting being the main interfaces with public bodies, as those bodies seek to try to manage high levels of customer enquiries. Therefore, the presence of Stowmarket Town Council in the heart of the town is important in liaising with key agencies and service providers, and at times, holding them to account for their actions. Lobbying is a key part of what the Town Council does. It is not as visible as one of the Town Council’s venues or events. However, it is vitally important in working with housing developers, commercial developers, rail operators, local government bodies, environmental agencies etc. to pursue more investment, more infrastructure and amenities, more employment opportunities and better services for the town.
Town Councillors are always eager to assist local people either taking up matters on their behalf or signposting them to where they can get specialist help. To find out who your Town Councillor is click here.
