Two former Town Councillors have sadly died.
Lesley Mayes served as a Town Councillor for over 20 years until May 2023 and was Town Mayor in 2015/16.
Lesley was admired by all who knew her, and she was extremely passionate about Stowmarket. Lesley was a person of strong convictions, and she had a wonderful sense of humour.
Unphased by any issue, she liked to lead from the front and get things done. Lesley became one of the great personalities and “mother figure” of the Town Council in recent years, and her company was enjoyed by us all.
Gerard served two terms as a Town Councillor. The first being when he was a young man in the 1970s, and then later when he returned to the Town Council in 2011 and went on to serve as Town Mayor with great distinction in 2014/15.
Gerard was a well-know figure in the town and particularly, in his Combs Ford Ward. He was regarded as a “true gent” being charming and courteous in all that he did when serving his local community.
Both Lesley and Gerard will both be sadly missed and fondly remembered by us all.
