28 November
In collaboration with local organisations and community groups, Stowmarket Town Council are delighted to announce that the Stowmarket Christmas Fayre will take place on Sunday 28th November, from 10.30am to 5.00pm.
The historical Christmas light switch on has long been a night enjoyed by families across the town, but this year to prevent large gatherings in a small area (due to Covid-19), Stowmarket will instead be doing things a bit differently.
The Stowmarket Christmas Fayre will be held in various locations across the town centre with Town Mayor, Keith Scarff, opening the event and announcing the start of the festive period by lighting up the town centre so that the Christmas Fayre is underneath an array of delightful decorations, spectacular lights and a glittering Christmas tree.
The Fayre will host festive market stalls selected with care to ensure a broad mix of gifts, treats, food and drink from local and regional traders. In addition to the market stalls, there will be an ice rink, merry-go-round, miniature model fairground and street entertainment, including stilt walkers, carol singers and brass band musicians.
Special guest, Father Christmas, will be at the Museum of East Anglian Life with his sleigh and real life reindeers to feed. Tell Santa what’s on your Christmas list and receive a gift to take away (£5 per child). At the John Peel Centre there will be festive storytelling (book free tickets to guarantee a seat), and the Regal will be showing classic Christmas films!
And if that’s wasn’t enough, you can visit over 360 trees at the Christmas Tree Festival at St Peter and St Mary’s Church, and enjoy a Christmas Craft Market at The Mix. A mini Christmas charity fair will also take place at Red Gables and children will be able to create Christmas crafts at Stowmarket Library. To complement the Stowmarket Christmas Fayre, there will be a winter art trail organised by Fox Yard Studio, which you can follow whilst shopping with town centre businesses.
