21 September
On Tuesday 21st September, 9:30am until 3:30pm at the Old Cemetery, Bury Road, we are launching the first Community Biodiversity 100 event.
The day will consist of creating and installing 100 new wildlife habitats which includes robin boxes, sparrow boxes, blue tit boxes, bug hotels and log piles
for wildlife to call home. The event will be supported by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust and the Museum of East Anglian Life (MEAL) who will be running fun activities, including making willow crowns, pinecone bird feeders and log piles.
Due to health and safety requirements, we are unable to hold an open event so will instead be inviting our town’s secondary school Stowmarket High School and local community groups to attend at set arrival times.
The scheduled activities for each group will include:
- A health and safety briefing from Michael Marriot (Stowmarket Town Council).
- A demonstration and talk from Tom Peer (MEAL) about how to build a log-pile and why log piles make great habitats.
- A group activity of collecting small logs, large sticks and pieces of rotting wood to make your own log pile.
- Placing your groups allocated bug hotel(s) in an identified shady location.
- And to finish, make your own willow crowns and pinecone bird feeders with Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
