Wild Areas – increasing biodiversity
Stowmarket Town Council is committed to supporting biodiversity through designated rewilding areas on Town Council-owned land.
These rewilding areas, where grass is allowed to grow longer and wildflowers are left to flourish, include:

| Old Cemetery | 12,730 | This site is cut once per year by means of a power scythe to encourage areas for ‘natural habitats’. |

Reducing the number of grass cuts each year can allow native plant species to thrive, and in some areas additional steps can be taken to prepare the ground, sow native wildflower seeds and more proactively encourage their growth.
Stowmarket residents are encouraged to give a piece of their gardens back to nature by getting behind the Wild Areas initiative, which sees patches of land left unmown between spring and autumn to encourage wild flowers, bees, butterflies, bugs and more.
