Meet the Mayor

It is a privilege to serve the town and its residents as a member of the Stowmarket Town council. It’s also an honour to have become Mayor

It’s hard to believe that I am in my third year of four years in office as a town councillor. It only seems like yesterday that my first job  was as a spotty teenager at Gateways supermarket, (now QD) in 1984. Like many residents I have witnessed changes to the town. To me the most important and defining part of Stowmarket has always been its residents. I’m certain many of you and your families will have or had connections with numerous clubs, associations, and charities. Stowmarket has many organisations that have reached and surpassed their Centenaries. Without our townsfolk giving their time for free and showing their compassion by selflessly helping others many of our groups would not exist.

My Mayoral theme is one of Community & Heritage, those of you who know me, will be aware of my love for Stowmarket’s past. In my 20 plus years of researching and delivering tours and talks about all kinds of aspects regarding the town, I have discovered many examples of stories that support and reflect the positive sides of its residents.

It’s for these reasons I have chosen two local organisations to raise funds for.

The  Jam Community Pot supports elderly, isolated and vulnerable people across the area, offering regular opportunities to come together through Monday Community Brew and the annual Christmas Day lunch.

Redwoods Lunch Club provides a welcoming space for older residents to socialise over a fresh meal every Monday from 11am to 1pm. They also have guest speakers and activities too.

Both these organisations provide a vital service to people from all walks of life, who need support, companionship,  and a reminder that they are part of a community that understands and cares.

I am so looking forward to serving and representing the town at the heart of Suffolk, …and of course the universe. So please if you see me around at any time stop and say hello.
