I came to Suffolk 20 years ago, as my career in electricity distribution had pulled me this way, and after 15 years in Needham Market I moved to Stowmarket in 2016.
I have been honoured to serve on the Town Council since being co-opted on in 2018, and then in 2019 I was elected as a councillor representing the Chilton South ward. I have found the Town Council to be an exciting and invigorating group, supported by a fantastic team.
Before being on the council I was aware that Stowmarket was a place with a real energy and future in front of it – it has excellent events and facilities and I believe it is the cultural hub of the area.
Since being on the council I have become increasingly aware that Stowmarket has a strong set of community groups with different aims and ambitions, from groups that support people with differing needs and difficulties, to youth groups as well as environmental, historical, social, charitable, sporting and cultural.
As a councillor I hope to ensure that we keep building on these roots and groups and keep enhancing Stowmarket to ensure that it remains an excellent place to live and a place where people want to come and visit. I also believe that we need to ensure that we always strive to put the needs of the community first in our interactions with the various stakeholders across the town and wider.
Currently I am the town council’s representative at the John Peel Centre (another brilliant asset to the town) and I also sit on the various committees listed.
