Barry & Heather at the carnivalWhat a most enjoyable and busy start Heather and I had to the month, the Platinum Jubilee events and the Carnival were great for the town and brilliant to participate in. The Platinum Jubilee celebrations started off with a short rickshaw ride in Stowmarket on Monday 23rd May as part of the Festival of Suffolk torch relay through the county.

On Thursday 2nd June we were taken to the Meadlands to help the Carnival Court judge the floats, I have carried out this duty before and this year was the hardest to pick the winning float, a great deal of hard work by everyone. Heather and I joined the procession and were pleased then to watch from The Regal as the procession passed by, you get a great view from The Regal steps.

We were then transported to StowFiesta which was packed with people enjoying themselves, I think this was the best attended StowFiesta we have had. Following a short break we went to the Recreation Ground to light one of the nation’s many Jubilee beacons. The Reverend Michael Eden and Viv Oakley from the Royal British Legion helped make it a successful end to a very successful day.

We are in the early stages of planning my Civic Service and nominations are coming in for the Stowmarket Awards so it looks like the busy time will continue. I hope to have some ideas on a fundraising event for my charity Greenlights at the Mix in another article.
